Early autumn white pumpkin embroidery

Last month, while browsing the magazine aisle in my local M&S, the new issue of Love Embroidery caught my eye. It had a stunning white pumpkin hoop on the cover, and I knew I had to get it.

As a self-proclaimed Autumn Girl, pumpkins are my favourite decor, and I have them as tiny plant pots, mugs, embroidered sweatshirts, fairy lights, candles… anything pumpkin-related has a place in my house. And pumpkin embroideries are no different.

White Pumpkin Embroidery

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t modify an already pretty good design, but I’m really picky.

The magazine template was made to fit in a 20 cm (8 inch) hoop, which is too big for my collection. I drew the pattern to reduce the size to fit my usual hoops of 15 cm (6 inch).

My notebook where I planned the design changes

The original design used Woven Wheels, which I’ve always disliked, so I decided to ignore those bits and add more leaves and French Knots instead.

I tried to follow the colours as closely as possible, but I ran out of the 746 thread I used for the big pumpkin, and guess what? My local haberdashery had all the threads, but that one!

At the shop, surprised by my bad luck

I ended up buying an Anchor thread instead, number 275, which was the closest colour I could find.

After a few evenings of stitching while rewatching Veronica Mars, I finished the hoop. I love how cute it looks, it has the perfect early autumn vibes.

I never would’ve chosen white pumpkins, I usually gravitate towards their more popular, orange sibling, but I love the contrast between the white, cool pumpkins with the flowers and leaves in autumnal, warm colours.

This issue of Love Embroidery came with another autumnal design, a cute witchy setting for Halloween, that I will start this month.

The weather in England is awfully hot as I write this. We’ve had a heatwave since the start of September, but my mind is already set on autumn. I can’t wait for the colder months!
